safaris

For many of our guests a visit to the national parks or game reserve in the area is a must and in some cases even a lifetime dream. The wildlife and the natural settings of the parks and reserves are magnificent and most definitely worth a visit. You can experience the wildlife by car, by foot and in some places by boat.

From Camp Bastian Mikumi we can arrange and help you to fulfill any safari-dream you may have, whether it being a one-day safari in Mikumi National Park or longer safaris to Ruaha National Park, Selous Game Reserve or any other National Park in Tanzania.

Udzungwa mountains

Udzungwa Mountains National Park is well-known for excellent hiking, trekking, mountain climbing and forest walks and it’s only a 1.5 hours drive from Camp Bastian Mikumi.

The only way to access the mountains is by foot along the excellent network of forest trails which means that the mountains remain rather undisturbed.

The most popular trail is the half day ramble to Sanje Waterfall, which plunges 170 metres (550 feet) through a misty spray into the forested valley below. This trail is a perfect one-day activity from Camp Bastian Mikumi.

For the more adventurous we recommend the two-night Mwanihana Trail which leads to the high plateau, with its panoramic views over the surrounding sugar plantations, before ascending to Mwanihana peak, the second-highest point in the range.

Camp Bastian provides you with everything needed for an overnight hike in the forest. We offer a package deal which includes tents, mattresses and bedding, porters, a cook and cooking equipment, food and transport to and from the start of the trails – in short, everything you need for a successful trek.

Cultural tours

Tanzania has much more to offer than wildlife and the traditional safaris. It's indeed rewarding to get off the beaten track and out of the safari vehicle even if it’s just for a short while.

Explore the nature and culture by food, by bike, by canoe – it will all get you closer to the nature, the culture and the people living here.

We can help you to arrange a variety of cultural tours or activities e.g. biking excursion, farm visits, different village tours, canoeing etc. - all accompanied by our skilled and knowledgeable guides.
